Report: 4 dead in attack at China retirement home

An unknown assailant attacked people at a Chinese retirement home Friday, killing four and wounding two others.
The attack happened in a district of Yichun city in Heilongjiang province in northeastern China, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
It gave no other details.
Calls to the city police were referred to the district police, who said call the city police. Calls to government and Communist Party offices rang unanswered, as did calls to the only retirement home listed in the Nancha district of Yichun.
China has experienced a string of violent attacks at schools and in public spaces this year that have left dozens dead and wounded scores more. The seemingly unrelated attacks have prompted calls for more attention to diagnosing serious mental illnesses and concern over the toll economic disparity and stress are taking on the nation's emotional health.
Assailants in previous attacks often had mental illness, grudges against their victims or anger over personal failures.
Last month a knife-wielding man killed three children and a teacher at a kindergarten in eastern China. About 20 children and staff members were wounded, two of the children seriously.
Other recent rampages include a May 12 attack on a kindergarten in the northern province of Shaanxi that killed seven children and two adults, and the wounding of 29 children at a kindergarten in Jiangsu province in April.
