Foreign minister to visit allies in Latin America, Caribbean

Taipei, Sept. 10 (CNA) Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy C.T.
Yang departed Taipei Thursday night on a diplomatic trip that will take him to Panama, Paraguay and Saint Lucia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) reported Friday.
Yang, who headed a delegation of MOFA officials, will meet leaders of the three Latin American and Caribbean countries, which all maintain formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, the ministry said in a press statement.
The minister will review cooperation projects and discuss relations with high-ranking officials of the three countries, the statement said.
During his stay in Panama, Yang will also preside over a mission chiefs' meeting that will bring together senior officials from all of Taiwan's embassies and representative offices in Central and South America and the Caribbean to chart a new regional diplomatic working agenda, the statement said.
The trip will last until Sept. 19, the ministry added.
