US cuts north Nigeria travel after prison attack

The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has cut travel to northern Nigeria after a radical Muslim sect attacked a prison holding its followers and killed five people.
The warden message issued Thursday warns that the prison break orchestrated by the Boko Haram sect and the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks "could result in additional acts of violence." The embassy also says it has deferred nonessential travel by its employees to Bauchi, Borno, Kano and Katsina states _ all in Nigeria's Muslim-dominated north.
Boko Haram, which launched a wave of attacks in July 2009, attacked the prison in Bauchi state Tuesday night, freeing more than 750 inmates. Among them were more than 120 sect followers.
