Defending champion the Netherlands reached the final of the women's field hockey World Cup, defeating England 4-3 in a penalty shootout Thursday after the match was level at 1-1 following extra time.
Hannah MacLeod gave England a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute before Maartje Paumen equalized in the 61st.
The Netherlands' Kim Lammers scored the winning penalty.
In the late semifinal, Germany faces host Argentina for the other place in Saturday's final.
Japan defeated Spain 2-1 to finish 11th place. Spain came 12th.
