Matt Kuchar took an early one-shot lead Thursday in the opening round of the BMW Championship with a birdie on his last hole for a 7-under 64.
Already a winner in the opening FedEx Cup playoff event, Kuchar is a stroke in front of Ryan Moore among those who teed off in the morning.
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson had afternoon tee times. Woods likely needs to finish among the top five to be among the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings who qualify for the Tour Championship.
Moore is No. 58 in the standings and needs to play well to advance to the Tour Championship. He was 1 over until making seven birdies on the back nine at Cog Hill, finishing with five straight.
