La Volpe takes over in Costa Rica

Ricardo La Volpe has agreed to take over as coach of Costa Rica's national football team.
Alexander Aguilar, spokesman for the Costa Rican federation, said the Argentine would hold a news conference on Thursday where he would be introduced as the new coach.
La Volpe coached Mexico into to the round of 16 at the 2006 World Cup, where the team lost to Argentina. La Volpe is expected to take over the team in January and will be on the bench for next year's Copa Centroamericana, the regional championship.
Costa Rica failed to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa and has fired two full-time coaches in the last year _ Rodrigo Kenton and Rene Simoes. The team has been handled recently by interim coach Ronald Gonzalez.
