Morocco: Court upholds life sentence for terrorist

The official Moroccan news agency says an appeals court has upheld the life sentence against a man convicted of plotting terrorist attacks in Morocco, holdups in Europe, large-scale money laundering projects and arms trafficking.
The official MAP news agency says the court upheld a lower court's July, 2009, conviction of Abdelkader Belliraj, a 53-year-old dual Moroccan-Belgian national who had maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
He had been tried along with 34 co-defendants and initially faced the death penalty.
The appeals court in Sale on Saturday reduced the initial prison sentences against some of the other defendants, including Belliraj's brother _ whose sentence was reduced from 8 to 5 years in prison.
