Gays march in Poland to demand equal rights

Hundreds of gays and lesbians are marching through Poland's capital to demand equal rights and more tolerance toward homosexuality in this heavily Roman Catholic nation.
Activists from Euro Pride, a European gay-rights festival, walked Saturday through central Warsaw, a city that has proven unfriendly to gays and lesbians in recent years.
Demonstrators waived rainbow flags and chanted slogans promoting a more tolerant society.
Gay-rights opponents had said they would protest the parade. Some previous gay demonstrations have been marked by violence.
Homosexuality was a taboo subject in Poland under communism. Since the fall of communism, gays have been campaigning for equal rights, but marriage in Poland is only legal between a man and a woman.
