Premier praises electric cars for passing safety checks

Taipei, July 17 (CNA) Premier Wu Den-yih praised a local business group Saturday that develops and produces "made in Taiwan" electric automobiles after the company's new vehicle passed all safety checks required by the government.
"It is an important milestone in the development of locally designed electric automobiles, " Wu said while visiting the Yulon Group's automobile manufacturing base in Taipei County.
Luxgen Motor Co., a subsidiary of the Yulon Group, unveiled its fully electric seven-passenger MPV earlier this year, making it Taiwan's first locally made electric car with an intelligent operation system.
After riding in the car, which has been certified as producing no carbon dioxide emissions, the premier said he was impressed by the smoothness and steadiness of the vehicle.
Saying the automobile manufacturing sector played a leading role in the development of many countries' industrial sectors, Wu promised the government will help local automobile makers and parts suppliers.
Wu was accompanied by Taipei County Deputy Magistrate Lee Si-chuan and Lin Chung-chang, director of the county's Transportation Bureau.
