St. Lucian official helps sick Taiwanese expatriate

Taipei, July 17 (CNA) Saint Lucian Minister of Health Keith Mondesir recently helped a sick Taiwanese expatriate receive the best medical care available at a hospital in Castries that received aid from Taiwan after Hurricane Dean in August 2007, the Republic of China Embassy in Saint Lucia said.
The embassy received a call on Thursday from Hsiao Yi-peng, head of the Technical Mission of the Republic of China to St. Lucia, asking for help for a Taiwanese expatriate who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, the embassy said in a statement.
Ambassador Tom Chou contacted Saint Lucia's top medical facility, the Victoria Hospital, and arranged for the patient to be treated there. He also launched a fundraising campaign at the embassy to cover expected high medical costs, the statement said.
The moves drew Mondesir's attention, who instructed the hospital to provide its best medical treatment and health care to the Taiwanese patient free of charge, the statement said.
