Palmeiras defeated Santos 2-1 in former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's first match in charge.
Striker Ewerthon and substitute midfielder Tinga scored a goal each for Palmeiras in the Brazilian league match on Thursday at Pacaembu stadium.
Scolari agreed a two-year deal with Palmeiras just before the World Cup and was officially introduced on Thursday. He was not on the bench during the match against Santos and phoned in instructions to his assistant from the stands.
Palmeiras is seventh in the 20-team Brazilian league standings, six points behind leaders Corinthians and Ceara, which played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday.
Scolari led Palmeiras to the 1999 Copa Libertadores title and Brazil to the 2002 World Cup title.
