UK's Cameron welcomes BP oil leak progress

British Prime Minister David Cameron has welcomed BP's success at capping the leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, and says the company would now benefit if it could know the full scale of its liabilities for the economic losses caused by the accident.
Cameron spoke after meeting with BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg at 10 Downing Street on Friday to discuss the company's progress in dealing with the ruptured underwater well.
Afterward, the prime minister told people at a public event that he also spoke with the BP executive about compensation the oil giant will need to pay.
Cameron says that while BP wants to compensate the people whose lives have been affected by the disaster, the company needs some certainty about the scope of its liabilities.
