Zagreb activists released, protest again

About 600 activists are protesting a construction project in downtown Zagreb, hours after some of them were briefly detained.
Protesters gathered Friday before the seats of both the country's ruling party and the main opposition party, which governs Zagreb. They say state and city institutions should "finally begin to respect the citizens' will."
Protesters claim turning an old block into an upscale building and shopping area will ruin Zagreb's historical center, and blame city authorities for permitting the project, by a local businessman, to go ahead.
Thursday, police detained 140 activists who tried to prevent construction work. The Green List, a protest organizer, said "democracy was humiliated _ brutally and ruthlessly" by the detentions.
