Kluft given wild card for European Champs

Swedish star Carolina Kluft has been given a wild card to compete in the long jump at the European Championships by the Swedish Athletic Association.
The former heptathlon champion failed to make the long jump qualifying distance of 6.55 meters, but association spokesman Fredrik Trahn says the body is sure she is capable of performing well in Barcelona.
Recently returning from a 10-month injury layoff, Kluft could only manage a distance of 6.34 at a meet in Karlstad, Sweden, on Thursday.
Kluft finished 9th in the long jump at 2008's Beijing Olympics. She switched events after becoming disillusioned with the heptathlon, despite going unbeaten for six years and winning Olympic gold in Athens in 2004.
The European Championships take place from July 27 to Aug. 1.
