Fishing boat crew members rescued before vessel sinks

Taipei, July 16 (CNA) All nine crew members aboard a fishing boat were rescued before their vessel sunk off the coast of Taipei County after catching fire, the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) reported Friday.
The CGA's Maritime Patrol Directorate General launched an emergency rescue mission after receiving a report of the fire at 0:54 a.m.
Three cutters were sent to help the Yehliu-registered 84.5-ton "Yu-Fa 236" boat. Yehliu is located on Taiwan's northern coast.
The crew members, consisting of the captain, Huang Chao-hsiang, two Taiwanese, three Indonesian and three Chinese fishermen, were rescued by a navy vessel nearby, the CGA said, They were later transferred to one of the rescue cutters.
CGA cutters tried to use water cannons to douse the flames aboard the fishing boat, but the large amount of diesel fuel aboard the ship hampered the firefighting efforts, and the fishing ship eventually sank.
