NZ inflation rises 0.3 percent in June quarter

New Zealand's inflation rate rose a lower-than-expected 0.3 percent in the June quarter, bringing the annual inflation rate to 1.8 percent.
Government agency Statistics New Zealand said Friday that rises in the price of tobacco products, petrol and housing were offset by a 0.9 percent fall in food prices. That resulted in a quarterly rate below central bank expectations of 0.5 percent.
The inflation rate rose 0.4 percent in the previous quarter to March.
