Officials have reopened the St. Lawrence Seaway four days after it was shut down by oil leaking from a ship that ran aground just south of Montreal.
Andrew Bogora, communications officer for the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp., said Thursday clean up efforts were successful, allowing navigation to resume on the channel.
The Canada Steamship Lines ship ran around late Monday after its engine failed in a storm. Between 50 tons and 200 tons of oil leaked from the ship's punctured fuel tank before it could be sealed.
Bogora says said the spill was contained Tuesday.
