The Executive Yuan yesterday approved a plan to help the digital content industry attain the goal of generating turnover of around NT$780 billion (US$24.38 billion) by 2013, promote investment of NT$100 billion and create 31,500 jobs over the next four years.
The development plan also aims to generate NT$14 billion from international cooperation projects.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) which initiated the plan, the digital content industry in 2009 accounted for NT$460.3 billion in production value, NT$35 billion in exports, and 76,500 jobs.
Woody Duh, director-general of the MOEA's Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), said that Taiwan has an edge in the Chinese-speaking market in the development and production of digital games, animation, video and music.
