Taiwanese film entered at Locarno Film Festival

Taipei, July 15 (CNA) A Taiwanese film titled "The Fourth Portrait" has been entered in competition at the 63rd Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, which the film's director described Thursday as great recognition for him.
Through his publisher, Atom Cinema, director Chung Mong-hung, who is currently in China, expressed excitement and said being entered in the international film competition is a further encouragement after the film won three awards at the Taipei Film Festival in early July.
The film, which is Chung's second feature and is about a 10-year- old boy forced to live in the chilly home of his estranged mother after his father dies, won Best Narrative Feature, Best Actor and Audience Choice Award in the Taipei festival.
Chung's film has been entered in the festival's Filmmakers of the Present competition, the results of which will be announced at the Aug. 14 closing ceremony. The Locarno Film Festival is known for discovering new talent and trends in international films. Taiwanese film directors including Ang Lee, Hou Hsiao-hsien and Edward Yang all won awards at the festival during their early years. Hou was also awarded an honorary "Leopard of Honor" award in 2007.
