Israel arrests Jewish extremist on murder charges

An ultra-Orthodox Jewish extremist has been arrested on suspicion he murdered three Palestinians more than a decade ago.
Israel's Shin Bet security service says 30-year-old Chaim Perlman is also suspected in a series of attacks on other Arabs in the late 1990s.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said Thursday that Perlman faces charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons.
Perlman is a well-known figure in the Israeli ultranationalist right. He has been linked to the extremist movement founded by U.S.-born Rabbi Meir Kahane who preached that Palestinians should be expelled from Israel and the West Bank.
Perlman's lawyer Adi Keidar said his client is a former Shin Bet informant and was coerced into talking about the attacks.
