Austria's largest circulation newspaper says its powerful publisher has died at the age of 89.
The Kronen Zeitung says on its website that Hans Dichand passed away in hospital Thursday with his family by his side.
Dichand was a household name in Austria and known for commenting on and influencing politics in the Alpine republic. He rose from humble beginning to become both revered and feared.
The Kronen Zeitung is one of the most widely read dailies per capita in the world with roughly 3 million readers in a country of just over 8 million.
