First lady tells story to children in Russia

Taipei, June 12 (CNA) First lady Chow Mei-ching fascinated Russian children with a Chinese legend during a story-telling session at the Russian State Children's Library in Moscow Friday.
Speaking through an interpreter, Chow told a story about how 12 animals were chosen for the Chinese zodiac to a group of nearly 20 children, according to Chow's entourage.
She later found out that the Chinese zodiac was not totally unfamiliar to her audience, because they were all able to tell which zodiac sign they belonged to after she finished her story.
She then gave her storybook to the children and presented a box of Taiwan-published children's books to the library. She also signed a VIP autograph book that also bears the autograph of former U.S.
first lady Laura Bush.
Also Friday, Chow visited Red Square and the Kremlin and watched a performance of "Carmen" at the New Bolshoi Theatre.
Chow arrived in Russia June 9 as honorary director of Taiwan's Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, which is performing at the 2010 Chekhov International Theatre Festival June 10-13.
She is scheduled to wrap up her visit and return to Taiwan Sunday.
