Bangladesh fought back against England on the second day of the first test at Lord's, reaching 67-0 at tea after bowling England out for 505 on Friday.
Tamim Iqbal, 42 not out, and Imrul Kayes, 22 not out, survived two appeals for run outs as they scored rapidly, putting on 50 from 73 balls in 50 minutes.
Shahadat Hossain took 5-98 for Bangladesh, including the wicket of Jonathan Trott, who ground his way to 226 from 349 balls, including 20 fours.
Shahadat produced a spell of 3-12 from 21 balls as England lost four quick wickets in the afternoon session.
England began the day in a commanding position on 362-4 but made slow progress, scoring just 42 runs in the first hour.
Bangladesh made an early breakthrough when Shahadat had Eoin Morgan caught behind for 44 in the third over, ending a partnership of 112 with Trott.
Matt Prior made just 16 before he was run out by substitute fielder Shamsur Rahman, who was on the field while Tamim received treatment for a wrist injury.
Trott drove Rubel Hossain for a single but sent Prior back when he was already halfway down the wicket looking for a second, leaving him stranded.
Trott made dogged but unspectacular progress and reached his double century with a glance to midwicket in the 108th over.
Tim Bresnan was out for 25 in the second over after lunch, caught by Junaid Siddique off Shahadat, and Trott's marathon innings finally came to an end when he tried to cut Shahadat and was caught at second slip by Imrul Kayes.
Graeme Swann tried to inject some impetus into the innings, with a rapid 22 from 13 balls, before he was caught by Rubel Hossain off Shakib Al Hasan.
James Anderson took England past the 500 mark with a reverse sweep for four off Shakib, but he was bowled by Shahadat in the next over, setting Bangladesh a target of 306 to avoid the follow on.
