Rwandan police arrest US lawyer

Rwandan police say they have arrested a U.S. lawyer on allegations of genocide denial days after he arrived in the country.
Peter Erlinder came to Rwanda to help a team provide legal defense for presidential hopeful Victoire Ingabire, the leader of the opposition party who had been arrested earlier this year and charged with genocide ideology.
Rwanda's 1994 genocide claimed the lives of more than 500,000 people, mostly Tutsis and moderate Hutus.
Police spokesman Eric Kayiranga says Erlinder was arrested Friday morning and will be presented in court to face charges. Kayiranga denies that politics are involved in this arrest.
Ingabire, a Hutu, is free on bail but her passport was seized and she can't leave Kigali. She could be sentenced to more than two decades in prison if convicted.
