More overseas funds to be returned to Taiwan: ex-president's son

Taipei, May 28 (CNA) The son of ex-President Chen Shui-bian said Friday that 70 percent of his family funds stashed in Swiss bank accounts is expected to be wired back to Taiwan within the next two weeks.
Chen Chih-chung made the comments in the wake of news reports that US$2 million of the ex-first family's US$21.08 million deposits in Swiss banks have already been remitted to a Taiwanese bank account designated by the prosecutors in charge of the case.
The former president has been detained since Nov. 12, 2008 on charges of corruption and has already been sentenced to life imprisonment. The prosecutors believe that all of the funds in Switzerland are his family's illegal gains and should be confiscated.
A judge of the Taiwan High Court presiding over Chen's appeal against his sentence, had suggested earlier that the former president must return these funds back to Taiwan if he wishes to be released on bail.
