Howard's ICC position under threat

The hopes of former Australian Prime Minister John Howard becoming vice president of the International Cricket Council have taken a further blow, with Sri Lanka now set to oppose his nomination.
Sri Lanka's interim cricket committee chairman Somachandra da Silva says his country will vote against Howard because he is an outsider, not a former cricket official.
The comments prompted ICC president David Morgan and president-elect Sharad Pawar on Friday to issue a statement backing the rotating regional nomination process that put Howard's name forward.
Howard needs at least seven of 10 countries to back his candidature, and South Africa, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka are thought likely to oppose him.
