Kubel powers Twins over Yankees

Jason Kubel hit two home runs and drove in five runs to power the Minnesota Twins to an 8-2 win over the New York Yankees in Thursday's American League action.
Kubel hit a solo homer in the sixth, a three-run shot in the seventh and had an RBI double for the Twins, who had gone eight games and 349 plate appearances without a home run before he broke out.
For New York, Robinson Cano had two hits and two RBIs and Mark Teixeira had two hits.
Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn (6-1) gave up two runs in seven innings.
Yankees starter Javier Vazquez (3-5) allowed five runs in 5 2-3 innings and took the loss.
Rays 5, White Sox 1
In St. Petersburg, Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford homered for Tampa Bay in the win over Chicago.
Crawford hit a solo homer in the first and drove in a run off Gavin Floyd (2-5) with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly. Longoria's solo shot off the Chicago starter put Tampa Bay ahead 3-0 in the sixth.
The Rays snapped a three-game losing streak, improving baseball's best record to 33-15.
Tampa Bay starter Jeff Niemann (5-0) limited the White Sox to two singles before giving up a solo homer to Mark Teahen leading off the eighth inning.
Royals 4, Red Sox 3
In Boston, Brian Bannister pitched six strong innings to help Kansas City end Boston's five-game winning streak.
Bannister (4-3) gave up three runs while winning his third straight. Joakim Soria pitched a perfect ninth for his 12th save.
David DeJesus drove in two runs for the Royals.
Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka (3-2) walked a season-worst eight while allowing three runs over 4 2-3 innings. He walked five batters in the fifth inning, sandwiched around an RBI single by DeJesus.
Athletics 7, Orioles 5
In Baltimore, Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled in three runs to cap a five-run eighth inning that lifted Oakland over Baltimore.
Gabe Gross homered for the Athletics, who won the final two games of the three-game series to claim only their second road series win of the season.
In the eighth, Baltimore reliever Mark Hendrickson (1-3) gave up an RBI single to Ryan Sweeney, an infield hit and a bad-hop single. Cla Meredith relieved and Kouzmanoff doubled to the gap in left-center.
Oakland reliever Michael Wertz (2-0) got two outs in the seventh for the win.
Miguel Tejada drove in two runs and Julio Lugo had three hits for the Orioles.
