Peru riverboat sinks, at least 16 reported dead

A riverboat has sunk in the Peruvian Amazon, killing at least 16 people, officials said Thursday.
Rescuers feared more could be dead on the Camila, which sank early Wednesday. There were at least 161 survivors, regional defense director Robert Falcon said.
Heavy cargo made it impossible for salvage teams to raise the semi-submerged vessel and bodies were being retrieved from underwater.
It was unclear how many people were aboard the Camila, which was built to carry 160 passengers.
Officials say it left the city of Iquitos with 146 passengers but picked up more along the way.
Among the bodies recovered by search teams Thursday were those of two girls, ages 4 and 6.
