English FA hopes for stablity by hiring new chief

England's Football Association has shored up its management team ahead of the World Cup by appointing Alex Horne as the permanent successor to chief executive Ian Watmore, who resigned amid a power struggle.
Horne, who had been serving in a temporary capacity since Watmore's sudden exit in March, will assume the new title of general secretary.
The FA, which is still reeling from the newspaper sting that forced chairman David Triesman to quit earlier this month, also on Thursday installed Roger Burden as acting chairman before a permament replacement is announced.
Following months of turmoil, Burden hopes that Horne's appointment to lead the executive team will lead to "strong leadership and stability."
