Philippine militants abduct 3 farm workers

The military says suspected al-Qaida-linked militants have abducted three rubber farm workers in the southern Philippines, apparently to divert troops' attention.
Rear Adm. Alex Pama says initial information indicates 20 Abu Sayyaf members led by Furuji Indama, a senior commander, seized the victims Thursday from a passenger minibus in Basilan island's Libog village.
Pama, a military task force commander, says the abduction probably was an attempt at diversion after troops raided an Abu Sayyaf camp two weeks ago, killing a militant and capturing 14 others.
The Abu Sayyaf is a small but violent group suspected of having received training and funds from al-Qaida. The U.S. has blacklisted it as a terrorist group for deadly bombings, kidnappings and beheadings.
