Hands-on senior manager wanted to run Taoyuan airport

Taipei, May 27 (CNA) The government launched a talent hunt Thursday in preparation for transforming Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the country's main gateway to the world, into a corporation later this year.
Most wanted is an experienced, hands-on executive to serve as the top manager of the new corporation scheduled to be formed in November, said Yeh Kuang-shih, deputy minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).
Candidates for the post must have served as general manager in a medium-sized or large private corporation for at least three years, or as deputy general manager for at least five years, and must have a remarkable performance record.
Those companies must have an average annual business turnover of NT$5 billion (US$155.28 million) for the past five years or have a work force of over 1,000.
If the hopefuls are from the public sector, they must have held a grade-12 or higher leadership post in a government agency for at least five years or have served in a deputy general manager post or higher in a state-run enterprise for at least five years with a brilliant management record.
"Applicants must produce credentials to prove their outstanding leadership abilities and managerial proficiency," Yeh said.
Moreover, prospective candidates must be citizens of Taiwan, with dual nationalities barred from applying.
Candidates must also have graduated from a university for at least 20 years or have completed graduate study for 15 years or have held a doctoral degree for at least 10 years.
Hopefuls must speak fluent English and be versed in English writing, reading and listening comprehension.
The monthly pay will follow the norms of state-run enterprises -- about NT$150,000 a month, Yeh said, adding that the ministry will not rule out the possibility of offering a higher salary depending on the candidate.
Yeh said the MOTC has formed a talent-hunting task force composed of six scholars and experts, with himself serving as convener.
According to Yeh, the airport transformation plan is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and management flexibility in connection with the development of the airport complex and its surrounding area in the northern county of Taoyuan into an aerotropolis.
