Poland's Marek Belka proposed as central bank head

A former prime minister of Poland has been nominated to be the country's new central bank chief more than a month after the previous one was killed in a plane crash.
Marek Belka works for the International Monetary Fund. Poland's acting president proposed him Thursday and lawmakers will vote next week on the nomination.
The last governor of the National Bank of Poland, Slawomir Skrzypek, died April 10 in the plane crash in Russia that killed President Lech Kaczynski and many of the country's senior officials _ 96 people altogether.
Acting President Bronislaw Komorowski said that Belka agreed to the nomination.
Belka is an economist and currently the director of the IMF's European department.
