Euro up to $1.2288 as dollar takes breather

The euro has edged back up toward the $1.23 mark as the dollar takes a break from gains it made on the back of promising U.S. economic data.
The 16-nation euro bought $1.2288 in early European trading Thursday _ up from $1.2204 in New York late Wednesday and off a session low of $1.2155.
It has been battered recently by worries about Europe's debt crisis and has been trading around four-year lows.
Still, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on Wednesday lifted its growth forecasts for euro-zone countries and others. U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the European Union has a good plan for tackling its debt crisis, but must act on it soon.
The British pound was up to $1.4437 from $1.4420 while the dollar inched up to 90.29 Japanese yen from 90.12 yen.
