ECFA signing will not be rushed: vice minister

Taipei, May 27 (CNA) The government will not rush to sign an economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) with China although it is still aiming to conclude the pact by the end of June, Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Sheng-chung said Thursday.
"If the negotiations fail to produce even a barely acceptable outcome, we would rather delay the signing, " Lin told lawmakers during a joint committee meeting in the Legislative Yuan.
He said it appears that the third round of ECFA talks will have to be put off to June, which means that it would be a tight schedule to seal the deal by the end of the month.
The vice minister admitted that fewer than expected petrochemical, textile and machinery items will be included in the ECFA "early-harvest" program, but said this is how negotiations work.
However, there will be some progress soon in the patent and trademark negotiations between the two sides, he said.
