Police probing officer's suicide: minister

Taipei, May 27 (CNA) Police authorities are investigating a suicide case involving an officer in Lujhou, Taipei County and will release the results in a couple of days, Interior Minister Jiang Yi-huah said Thursday.
The victim, identified as 47-year-old Chuang Chih-chiang, reportedly shot himself to death outside his station Wednesday night.
Jiang told reporters that Chuang was having a discussion with the chief of the police station when he took out his gun and attempted to kill himself.
The station chief was shot while trying to stop Chuang, and he later went into the station to seek help from his colleagues, Jiang said. It was during this time that Chuang again fired his gun and ended his life, the minister said.
Jiang said his ministry has ordered an investigation into reports that Chuang was in debt, abused drugs and did not get along with his family. Police will explain the case to the public in detail as soon as the investigation is concluded, which he expected to take a couple of days.
He said his ministry will seek to strengthen psychological guidance for police officers in the future.
