Darfur rebel leader to return to battlefield

Darfur's most powerful rebel movement says its leader will return to Sudan soon to rejoin his group in its fight against the government in Khartoum.
The head of the Justice and Equality Movement, Khalil Ibrahim, was denied entry into Chad on Wednesday on his way back to Sudan. Rebels have used Chad as a passage to western Darfur since they took up arms against the Sudanese government in 2003.
Chadian authorities sent Ibrahim back to Libya after seizing his travel documents and those of his aids.
But JEM spokesman Ahmed Hussein said Thursday that Ibrahim will return to Darfur via another route. He did not elaborate.
Darfur is adjacent to both Egypt and Libya but it is unclear whether they would grant him access to their border with Sudan.
