National Museum of History 國立歷史?物館(No. 49, Nanhai Rd., Taipei 台北市南海路四十九號;Tel: 02-2361-0270) Old Jades with New Designs and Restored Elegance - An Artistic Creation by Chang Cheng-Fen will be displayed through July 16. Master of Cursive Calligraphy - the Art of Yu You-ren' s Calligraphy 千古一草聖-于右任?法展 will be displayed from July 7 to August 20. Yu You-ren is regarded as a master of cursive calligraphy for his outstanding achievements in calligraphy, and his enthusiasm in promoting the use of standard cursive script. In fact, he has also used the standard and running scripts, but the cursive script was his favorite. When he was 54 years old, he organized a standard cursive script association in Shanghai , because he believed that there was an urgent need for a more convenient writing form, and he sought the solution from the history of the Chinese writing system. There were writing elements that have been cultivated through time and they were unique and flexible to be adapted to the fast-changing world. The Chinese should take the best advantage of these writing elements, he felt, as this would be the best way to continue the tradition. Toys From Spain 西班牙玩具特展 will be displayed from July 1 to September 24. Although toys are playthings for children, when viewed from a wider perspective, the shapes, colors, design and evolution of toys can help us gain a better understanding of the historical and cultural background to the development, traditions and way of life of a people. The more than 300 toys and games that are included in this exhibition show the major trends in the development of toys both in Spain and worldwide.

Taipei Fine Arts Museum 台北市立美術館 (No.181, Sec. 3, Chungshan N. Rd., Taipei 臺北市中山北路三段181號; Tel: 02-2595-7656) New Media Collection, 1965-2005—Centre Pompidou 龐畢度中心新媒體藝術展1965-2005 will be displayed until July 23. Hsu Wu-yung Retrospective Exhibition 許武勇回顧展 will be on display through September 3. This exhibition takes over a hundred representative works by Hsu. Influenced by the surrealism of Marc Chagall, Hsu captures landscapes in images both real and fantastic. Landscape: Highlights from the Permanent Collection 山水-2006典藏常設展 will be displayed through October 22. Lo Hsiang-ling Photograph Exhibition 躡影追飛 - 駱香林的攝影畫? will be displayed through September 3. Lo Hsiang-lin (1895-1977) was a classically educated scholar, an able poet, writer, calligrapher and painter who also studied rock and mineral formations. This is the first formal and complete public exhibition in Taiwan to exclusively focus on the photographic works of Lo Hsiang-lin. Works included span from the 50s through the 70s and offer a glimpse through Lo's lens of the sights of Hualien and his continually experimental nature and endless quest for the sights of Taiwan. Lo's elegant and moving images transport us back to an earlier life of Taiwan. Altered States 疆界, a visual art exhibition curated by Amy Huei-hua Cheng, will be shown at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum台北市立美術館 from July 8 to September 3. This exhibition brings together eight works by 10 artists from Taiwan and abroad using video, sound and other media to present and explore the sense of living on the edge and the complex, multifaceted boundaries of life formed through various social and environmental mechanisms. Taiwan’s artists featured include Wang Jun-jieh, Lin Chi-wei, Xu Ya-zhu, Chen Chieh-jen, Yeh Wei-li, Wu Yu-xin. The works of four foreign artists -- Donna Conlon, Rodney Graham, Antonia Hirsch, and Anri Sala are also included in the show.
