Benesova, Cornet, Voracova reach Fez semis

Renata Voracova of the Czech Republic reached her first career WTA Tour semifinal by beating fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-2 at the Grand Prix SAR on Thursday.
Alize Cornet of France and Voracova's compatriot, Iveta Benesova, also advanced to the last four with quarterfinal wins. The seventh-seeded Benesova rallied past Laura Pous Tio of Spain 2-6, 6-1, 6-0, while Cornet defeated Anne Keothavong of Britain 7-5, 6-2.
The 106th-ranked Voracova broke Kerber at 5-5 in the first set, and then in the opening game of the second after a double-fault from the German player. Kerber lost her serve again to give Voracova a 5-2 lead before the Czech served out the match.
Voracova will next play either second-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland or Romania's Simona Halep.
Benesova dropped serve twice in the opening set of her match but fought back by jumping to a 3-0 lead in the second. She then won the last nine games to seal victory.
Benesova will next face Cornet, who converted her three break chances in the second set while Keothavong wasted four break points. The British player also failed to serve for the opening set at 5-4.
The tournament is the only WTA Tour stop in Africa.
