A South Korean climber who is seeking to become the first woman to scale the world's 14 highest peaks has put off her summit attempt of Annapurna until next week, according to a report yesterday.
Oh Eun-Sun, 44, had planned to make her final push to the top of the Himalayan peak this weekend but decided to delay it until Monday or Tuesday because of strong winds near the summit, Yonhap news agency said.
Oh, who was yesterday at a camp 6,400m (21,120 feet) up the mountain, made the decision after her base camp informed her by radio that conditions were expected to be snowy and windy over the weekend, Yonhap said.
She would descend to a lower-level camp and wait for the weather to clear, it added. Avalanches and ice falls have claimed the lives of dozens of climbers attempting to summit Annapurna.
