Taiwanese fishing boat missing off Indonesia found

Taipei, April 21 (CNA) A Taiwanese fishing vessel that went missing off Indonesia last week has been found and is being kept under surveillance by the Indonesian Navy, the head of a fishermen's association in Liuchiu, Taiwan's southern county of Pingtung said Wednesday.
The Liuchiu-registered Chen Fu Hsiang 16 was found Tuesday, nearly a week after it lost contact with Taiwan last Wednesday while it was operating in an area south of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean, according to Tsai Pao-hsing, the head of the Liuchiu Fishermen's Association.
Due to high waves and strong winds at the sea off Indonesia Tuesday, the Indonesian Navy was unable to approach the missing vessel and was only able to keep a close watch on it.
So it was still unknown what happened on the boat, Tsai said, citing information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The association and family members of the Taiwanese captain of the fishing vessel suspect that the captain might have been hijacked by the eight Indonesian crew members on the boat, Tsai said.
