Israel sentences Arab man for spying for Hezbollah

Israel has sentenced an Arab Israeli man to five years in prison for spying on the country's military chief for Hezbollah.
A court said Tuesday that 23-year-old Rawi Sultani confessed to passing information about Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi to the Lebanese militant group.
Sultani went to the same health club as Ashkenazi and was accused of providing information on the general's movements as part of an alleged Hezbollah assassination plot.
Sultani faced up to 25 years in prison. The defense originally argued Sultani was innocent. But at the sentencing, his lawyer said Sultani had fallen prey to "cunning and professional Hezbollah members operatives."
Israeli officials say Hezbollah wanted to kill Ashkenazi in retaliation for the killing of a top Hezbollah commander in a 2008 bombing widely attributed to Israel.
