Taiwan's Riverbed Theatre performs in France

Paris, April 4 (CNA) The Taiwanese modern theater group Riverbed Theatre Company performed "Flowers of E, " a piece based on the life of 19th century French author and poet Charles Beaudelaire, for the first time in France on Saturday.
Craig Quintero, artistic director of the Riverbed Theatre, which was founded in 1998 in Taipei, said that while Riverbed's performances normally have no dialogue, "Flowers of E" will feature poetic recitations in three languages -- Chinese, English and French.
At the same time as actors on the stage recite their lines in the poem in Chinese, Guy Magen, the director of the Robert Desnos Cultural Center, will read the lines in French.
Magen said he was first impressed by the Riverbed Theatre's performances at the Avignon-Off Festival in 2007 and 2008, so he invited the group to perform at the Robert Desnos Cultural Center in the department of Essonne south of Paris last year and to produce the "Flowers of E" in 2010.
He said that it was the first time the French cultural center had sponsored a foreign group for a theater performance.
"Flowers of E" will also be performed from June 25-27 at the 2010 International Theatre Festival in Taipei.
