Storm stays perfect with win over Dragons

The Melbourne Storm beat St. George Illawarra 17-4 in a National Rugby League match featuring two previously unbeaten teams with the best two defensive records in the Australian competition.
Fullback Billy Slater continued his strong run of tries at Melbourne's indoor stadium, scoring his 15th in just six matches under the roof. Slater's 30-meter clinching try came in the 67th minute of Friday's match.
Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy said strong defense was the key to the victory. The team has allowed only six tries in four matches.
"It's been a fair while since a Storm team has defended that well for 80 minutes," he said. "They were outstanding."
The Storm remained in first place with a 4-0 record while St. George Illawarra dropped to 3-1.
"I don't know how big an occasion (it was), we're only four rounds into the competition," Dragons coach Wayne Bennett said. "They (the Storm) are always a well-prepared, committed side and their results of four grand finals in four years in the modern game is certainly some achievement."
The Gold Coast Titans had a chance to join Melbourne at 4-0 but lost 32-18 to the North Queensland Cowboys. Willie Tonga scored three tries for the Cowboys.
Michael Robertson and Steve Matai scored tries for Manly as the Sea Eagles beat the New Zealand Warriors 14-6 at Auckland, while the Wests Tigers, trailing 22-10 at halftime, held Canberra scoreless in the second half and beat the Raiders 35-22.
On Saturday, the Cronulla Sharks avoided equaling the worst losing streak in the NRL _ 14 matches _ with an 11-0 win over Parramatta. In steady rain, winger Blake Ferguson scored two second-half tries as the Sharks avoided tying a record held by the Western Suburbs of 1998-99.
The Sydney Roosters beat the injury-hit Brisbane Broncos 25-6. Todd Carney scored two tries and kicked four goals and a field goal to lead the Roosters against the Broncos, who had nine players aged 21 or under in their lineup.
Newcastle plays Penrith and South Sydney takes on the Bulldogs in matches Monday to complete the fourth round.
