Shanghai Mayor to travel by MRT and promote World Expo during Taiwan visit

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng will travel on Taipei’s Mass Rapid Transit system and promote his city’s World Expo at a school during this week’s visit to Taiwan, reports said Sunday.
The prominent Chinese official’s April 6-9 debut visit to Taiwan also includes Taichung, Taoyuan County and Taipei County.
Han will arrive at Songshan Airport close to downtown Taipei just before noon Tuesday, the capital’s city government announced Sunday. He will address a cities forum where Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin is also expected to speak.
His next stop will be Taipei Municipal Zhongshan Girls High School, where he discuss both his city’s May 1-October 31 World Expo and Taipei’s International Flora Expo, which will run from November 6 until April 25, 2011.
Han and Hau are expected to sign memorandums on cooperation and exchanges related to culture, travel, science and technology parks, and environmental protection Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday, the two mayors are expected to travel on the Tamshui MRT Line for trips to the National Palace Museum and the incineration plant in the Beitou District. Other destinations include Taipei 101 and a nearby book store, reports said.
Han was scheduled to visit a hospital chaired by Cecilia Koo, the window of Taiwan’s top cross-straits negotiator C.F. Koo, on Thursday morning before heading to other parts of the country, the city government said.
His delegation, which is to include Shanghai City Secretary-General Jiang Ping and the city’s chief of Taiwanese affairs Li Wenhui, will fly out of Taiwan on Friday morning, according to the official schedule.
