DomRep issues ban on heavy vehicles for Easter

The Dominican Republic for the first time has banned all heavy vehicles from the road on Easter Sunday to reduce fatal accidents.
Although authorities allowed trucks carrying food and fuel to drive on Easter in the past, the Emergency Operations Center now says such vehicles are more likely to cause serious accidents.
The ban on heavy vehicles is effective from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement from the center issued Saturday.
Officials say traffic is heaviest during those hours as people return from the beach and other Easter vacation spots.
