French workers drop threat to blow up factory

Workers at a factory north of Paris have dropped a threat to set fire to a huge gas tank to protest the factory's planned closure.
About 50 workers at Sodimatex, which makes car rugs, had occupied the site in Crepy-en-Valois since Thursday. They backed down Saturday after the factory's owners proffered a more generous offer of continuing education for employees whose jobs are threatened.
A union representative had said a day earlier that workers were threatening to set fire to a 5,000-litre (1,300-gallon) gas tank outside the factory.
Plant closings have led French workers to increasingly militant behavior, with numerous cases of boss-nappings over the past year and one other case of a threat to blow up a factory.
