Thousands of workers on strike at Taiwanese shoe factory in Vietnam

Thousands of workers went on strike at a Taiwanese-owned shoe factory in southern Vietnam demanding better pay and bonuses, it was reported yesterday.
The workers from Pou Chen Vietnam company in Dong Nai province refused to work on Friday and threw shrimp sauce and pig's blood onto workers that failed to participate in the strike, the Nguoi Lao Dong or Labourers newspaper said.
Up to 10,000 workers had gone on strike, reported the Tuoi Tre or Youth newspaper. The workers, paid an average of US$70 a month in Vietnamese cities, are demanding more monthly pay and bonuses on national holidays.
