UK government says Oman to buy Typhoon fighters

Prime Minister Gordon Brown's office says the government of Oman plans to purchase Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft for its air force.
A Downing Street statement said the British government is pleased Oman "has indicated its intention to buy Typhoon aircraft."
Friday's statement said the decision will "further enhance the strong strategic relationship between the UK and Oman." It offered no details on the deal.
Officials in Oman, a Persian Gulf nation, could not be reached immediately for comment.
Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft are manufactured by Britain's BAE Systems with European partners. In a statement, the company said Oman "is a country with which we have a long and valued relationship and stand ready and willing to support any requirement it has."
