Subsidence does not threaten safety of high-speed rail: MOTC

Taiwan's high-speed railway does not face a safety threat even though a six-kilometer section that cuts through Yunlin County sits on land that has subsided considerably in recent years, transport officials said yesterday.
The site where the elevated railway crosses over Provincial Expressway No. 78 in the central-south county has subsided the most, sinking 55 centimeters over the past seven years, according to data compiled by Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC), which operates the bullet train. According to the officials, the THSRC has closely monitored the subsidence of the Yunlin section's pier since 2004.
