Chinese delegation heads home following 2nd round of ECFA talks

The Chinese delegation to the just-concluded second round of talks on a proposed framework agreement on trade between Taiwan and China headed home yesterday.
Tang Wei, head of the Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs under China's Ministry of Commerce and China's lead negotiator at the talks, maintained a low profile and did not make any public comments prior to his departure.
Asked whether any concrete results were achieved at the talks, Tang only gave a polite "thank you all" response. To avoid encountering pro-independence or anti-China protesters at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the Chinese delegation arrived at the airport two hours before their flight's departure time.
According to Taoyuan police authorities, the Chinese delegation toured a tourism dairy farm in Taoyuan County's Yangmei Township yesterday morning to relax before heading to the airport. Many Chinese negotiators were reportedly visiting Taiwan for the first time.
The second round of ECFA talks began Wednesday at Ta Shee Resort in Taoyuan County, some 40 kilometers south of Taipei, and concluded at noon Thursday, half a day earlier than originally scheduled.
